ABOUT

Alexis Caldwell (Lex) is a Utah-based artist specializing in oil painting. She graduated as Valedictorian from Utah Arts Academy (formerly Tuacahn High School for the Arts) in 2022, where she was named Art Student of the Year for two consecutive years. Her work has been exhibited in art museums throughout Southern Utah, including at her school’s 2021 Art Show, where she received the Best of Show award.

Lex uses impasto oil techniques to investigate themes of self-expression, often through self-portraits and depictions of intimate, familiar spaces. Her current work draws inspiration from early 20th-century Expressionist painters, whose bold, emotive styles straddle the line between realism and abstraction. She currently creates from her bedroom studio in her family’s Tennessee home and will be pursuing a BFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design this coming fall.
